Caddo Parks Rolls Out “Taking it to the Streets” A Mobile Fitness and Crime Prevention Program for Caddo Parish Inner City and Rural Youth
Caddo Parish Parks and Recreation Department is rolling out “Taking it to the Streets,” a mobile pop up and play and crime prevention program designed to promote physical fitness and reduce crime within Caddo Parish inner city neighborhoods and rural communities. Pilot program sites were selected due to limited access to recreational opportunities or “play deserts” (inner-city apartment/housing complexes, rural towns/villages, and small subdivisions, etc.) or noted high crime communities.
“It is a priority and mission within our department staff to find new and innovative ways to deliver programs and services to our Caddo Parish youth. ‘Taking it to the Streets’ provides that platform,” said Patrick Wesley-Director of Caddo Parish Parks and Recreation.
Youth participants will engage in a diverse slate of wholesome recreational and fitness activities:
– Obstacle Agility Course
– Jump Rope Competitions
– Bounce Houses / Trampolines
– Sports Skill and Drill Activities (basketball, soccer, tee-ball)
– Line Dancing and Dance Contests
– Caddo Parish Law Enforcement-Community Relations Activities
– Other Fun Games and Activities
Hydration drinks and healthy snacks will be provided by the Caddo Parish Commission. A law enforcement officer will be on-site for all scheduled “Taking it to the Streets” events to ensure all activities are safe, fun and enjoyable for all youth attendees.
